Posted on July 18, 2026 by admin CHITHRA Don Bosco Organized Tuition Teachers’ Meet and Training Programme. 11th July 2026, CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga, organized a Tuition Teachers’ Meet and Training Programme for the teachers of its Evening Study Centres with the objective of strengthening their knowledge, skills and commitment towards providing quality education and holistic development for children. The programme was presided over by Rev. Fr. Felix Serrao, Rector and Administrator of Don Bosco CHITHRA, Chitradurga. The programme was inaugurated by Rev. Fr. Arun Chemplanikal, Director of CHITHRA Don Bosco, Chitradurga, and Mrs. Gangamma, Teacher of Kalkunte Study Centre, through the symbolic watering of a sapling, signifying growth, care and nurturing of children. Ms. Rakshitha, MINDS Project Counsellor of CHITHRA Don Bosco, warmly welcomed the gathering and emphasized the importance of continuous learning and capacity building for tuition teachers. The first session was led by Rev. Fr. Arun Chemplanikal, who introduced the participants to the life, vision, and educational philosophy of St. John Bosco. He highlighted Don Bosco’s conviction that “Education is a matter of the heart” and stressed the importance of building character rather than merely earning certificates. He , encouraged the teachers to guide children with compassion instead of punishment. Fr. Arun further elaborated on the need to contextualize the Evening Study Centres according to the needs of the local community and inspired the teachers to move beyond the role of instructors to become active mentors. He discussed the approaches to starting each study session effectively, promoting peer-to-peer learning, correcting children with dignity, using encouragement as a powerful educational tool, strengthening collaboration with parents, and recognizing that every teacher plays a vital role in shaping the future of children and society. Then Ms. Rakshitha, who introduced the participants to the objectives and activities of the MINDS Project. She explained the importance of promoting children’s mental well-being, identifying emotional concerns at an early stage, and creating a safe and supportive learning environment in the study centres. Following this, Mr. Divakar, MINDS Project Coordinator of CHITHRA Don Bosco, conducted an engaging Active Listening Activity, enabling teachers to understand the importance of listening with empathy and patience. He also provided awareness on mental health, helping teachers recognize emotional and behavioural challenges among children and respond appropriately with care and understanding. Then Mrs. Anthony Theresa, Programme and Communication Coordinator of CHITHRA Don Bosco. She presented the vision and main objectives of the Evening Study Centres and explained the roles and responsibilities of tuition teachers. She discussed their daily responsibilities, the essential qualities of an effective tuition teacher, and practical teaching methods that encourage active participation and joyful learning. She also emphasized the importance of Child Rights and Child Protection, creating child-friendly learning spaces, and educating children on Safe Touch and Unsafe Touch to ensure their safety and well-being.
