Its part of an International Network of Don Bosco, working towards the empowerment and sustainable development of the marginalized Women, Youth and Children. Our closeness with the less privileged and their desire for their development and the community around is the force behind our Programmes and Projects. CHITHRA Don Bosco draws its inspiration from St. John Bosco a tireless worker for the upliftment of poor and is proud to be part of an international network of Don Bosco Organizations working in over 132 countries towards the empowerment and sustainable development of the marginalized Women, Youth and Children. Our Programmes and Projects have always arisen from the need of the target group. We are also proud to be walking the visionary path and creating visions in the minds and hearts of our beneficiaries. Had its beginnings in 1997 and henceforth has been instrumental in empowerment & developmental areas in the district of Chitradurga, Karnataka. CHITHRA is the social action wing of The Chitradurga Don Bosco Society which is registered with the Registrar of Societies and Firms (NO. S.O.R. 283 / 1997-98 dated 1st December 1997 ). It is also registered with the Commissioner of Income Tax and has received the PAN Number (AAATT3081E dated 06 March 2000). The Chitradurga Don Bosco Society is also registered with the Home Ministry of India under the F.C.R.A (094490016 dated June 20, 2000). Since 18 years CHITHRA Don Bosco a development wing is serving the poor women, farmers, destitute women, youth and children over 70 villages and 25 areas in the town of Chitradurga. Major Activities: Organization of the exploited and marginalized poor women into SHG’s CHITHRA is actively involved in Informal education, Awareness programme and campaigns, on sheep raring, stitching, beautician training, cloth bag making, fruits covers making, paper bag making, PP Bag, mushroom cultivation training etc. Under the scheme of (WECAN) Women Empowerment through Collective Action and Networks: CHITHRA Don Bosco is training women, college students and government employees on women empowerment like Women Rights, Political awareness, legal awareness programmes and Gender Equality. The main intention is to create awareness about gender discrimination and to be aware of their basic rights and the schemes that are available for them. Under the scheme of (WE Live) CHITHRA ensures sustained income for poor women. This Scheme is aimed at enabling 50 rural women especially those marginalized and widowed to generate sustainable family income through sheep farming. It helps to alleviate poverty through pro-active participatory income generating through goat/sheep rearing. This project intents to sustain and generate income for the marinalized women and their family. Sheep Rearing Project: CHITHRA Don Bosco has promoted sheep rearing project to reduce poverty through pro-active participatory income generating of rural women in goat/sheep rearing. Sheep rearing has been found wonderful in respect of paying back the loan and earning additional income by selling the sheep. Women especially widows and those heading the family responsibility and SHGs can establish small-scale income generation programmes. Chithra has provided the sheep rearing loan amount of Rs.2,90,000/-. Under the project CREAM (Child Rights Education and Action Movement), The Chitradurga Don Bosco society educating children of their rights and it is continuously fighting in protecting the same. DB TECH Skilling Indian Youth: The scheme is instrumental in providing livelihood skills to the youth and main streaming opportunities in the sunrise sectors of the economy. They are molded with soft skills,technicalskills,workreadiness,socialaudits,etiquettes,initially hand holding and tracking them till they feel confident to carry on.
