Sujala Watershed Project

This was a project sponsored by the World Bank to the State Government. Chithra covered 10 micro watershed areas consisting of 6000 hectares in Beeravaranala sub-watershed area. It covered 48 villages, 5600 families as beneficiaries. This was done through 16 staff members along with 10 Government Officials. At the end of the project there were 60 farmers’ clubs, 114 Women SHGs and 10 Executive Committees. This Project covered both the cultivated and non-cultivated lands belonging to the Government and Private owners. The main objective of the Project was to make the Community members plan, use and protect the water and land resources sustainably through participatory approach. The Department of Horticulture, Forestry and Veterinary were all part of the Project. This was a 4 year project (2003-2006).
