A vote is a formal expression of an individual’s choice for or against some motion (for example, a proposed resolution); for or against some ballot question; or for a certain candidate, selection of candidates, or political party. Many countries use a secret ballot, a practice to prevent voters from being intimidated and to protect their political privacy. For us Indian Citizens the forth coming election is pretty important in many ways and with the on voyage of media and social media in particular, the seriousness and heat of the same is already felt by the people in various degrees. It is in this context and emerging situation that CHITHRA Don Bosco taking inspiration from various sectors particularly from BREADS Bangalore, on 13th March as part of the International Women’s Day celebrations grabbed teh opportunity to conduct an awareness program in order to make the women who had gathered in over 600 numbers, aware of the need to exercise their basic right of voting and the need to make sure that their names are on the electoral role and be aware of the pros and cons of exercising their franchise. The programme began when the women who had gathered were given a short and apt input by Mrs. Veena, Cream Coordinator and Fr. Sony Mathew SDB, Director Chithra Don Bosco. Later as they gathered in the auditorium and soon after the Introduction of the programme every one gathered stood up and made the Voters Pledge which goes thus…We the citizen of India, having abiding faith in democracy, here by pledge to uphold the democratic traditions of our country and the dignity of free, fair and peaceful elections, and to vote in every elections fearlessly without being influenced by considerations of religion, race, cast, community, language or any other inducement.
